A New Ode 05:32
Take me back to the ocean shores, my wooden floors We'd walk endlessly on those cracked cement roads Sometimes I swear I'm hopelessly left to never be found Choice is a blessed burden, we can't help but make a false move Left to our own devices to cope with the way things are Take these past ways as a lesson worth learning Change priorities, maybe life is worth earning We had no boundaries to how far our legs would walk Until our tongues were too tired to talk The world takes it's toll on those unaware Loss is a turning page, a prologue to a life left unscathed Hanging on to this strand of hope to cope with the way things are And all I can do is just try to stay alive Take these past ways as a lesson worth learning Change priorities, maybe life is worth earning Never let time just pass you by, be conscious of those who stood by your side Hold these beliefs close to your chest, and never forget dead or alive And if I were to forget anything dear God let it not be that.

Another day, another call from the doctor to hear what he has to say We're too afraid to listen I know not what I'd do if disease ever took you It was your iron will that kept me going when I heard the bad news We've gotta move on we've gotta get through this Just know I'm not the only one who believes in you I always keep my promises Severing ties, our final good-byes, and never speaking to that person for the rest of your life I can't think of a person less deserving of the burden you carry I feel weak and upset, this disease is just so scary You remind me of what's most important, and when I think of you it tears me up inside We've gotta move on we've gotta get through this Just know I'm not the only one who believes in you I always keep my promises Severing ties, our final good-byes, and never speaking to that person for the rest of your life I'm coming down to visit you in just one week I'm through with wasting time and like a "Russian Bear" once told me - "Someday is today", "Someday is today". I hope you know how much I care Your hopefulness is contagious in the air I owe so much to you

Just a while more with the one I love, if I stay here forever I'll never again be alone, but it's all I know. Oh, the fiction I believe every night repeating. When the floors creak she's singing to me, waiting for me in my dreams. Every time the wind blows she scratches upon my window. She's just as lonely as I. I take these pills to keep me well but my darling won't let me sleep, she says I'm all she needs, So as the sun sets east to west, I'll never rest. Oh, the fiction I believe every night repeating. When the floors creak she's singing to me, waiting for me in my dreams. Every time the wind blows she scratches upon my window. She's just as lonely as I. Sleep, baby sleep. Lay with me just once more. When the floors creak she's singing to me, waiting for me in my dreams. Each night I'm one step closer to the elysium life. She carved this headstone phrase above my door, "Farewell" and nothing more. I used to think that our love could only burn out with the sun but I guess it's different when you're young.

Two children left to desperately mourn for their parents' lives. Tonight they'll make sure they've said their last good byes. Come along darling, Follow me into the cold dark. Just stay close and I'll lead you to the burial site. Loved ones passed are within our grasp. We've only four feet 'til we've reached Mom and Dad. A vicious addiction, I'll admit I'm inflicted. Let's decorate each other with the garments of the grave. Under a black and blue sky just like fireflies we'll illuminate the night. We'll sing at the top of our lungs 'til every breathing thing sings back the songs we've sung. I always wear my heart on my sleeve. No one understands how much that means. Whoever said grave robbing was a crime? They'll read about our love in the New York Times. A vicious addiction, I'll admit I'm inflicted. Let's decorate each other with the garments of the grave. Breathe in deeply until you lose all feeling. Soon you'll find yourself deliriously dreaming. Their fragrance and beautiful faces give life all meaning. We never got to say goodbye, what were we supposed to do? I never thought you could be taken away, but yellow fever had other plans for you. Lulled asleep by this blaring song, I'm going deaf on the graveyard lawn. These lyrics are so reassuring. These corpses are ours 'til morning. Lantern lights and midnight frights. We danced until we saw the morning light.
